DDC Board Meeting, May 13, 2008

The meeting was called to order at 7:25 p.m. by President Donna Crossman. Licht moved to approve the Secretary's Report, Makurat seconded.
Crossman gave the Treasurer's Report for Marilyn Radtke. There is $3685.74 in the checkbook/savings, $8534.24 in CDs, for a total of $12,219.98. Houk moved to approve, Licht 2nd. Licht had bills for website. Makurat approved to pay the website bills, Crossman 2nd. MC.
Old Business:
Midwest Horse Fair - Loren gave a report for Marge Gettelman. Eight new memberships were received and 3 renewals. Rod Sale won the Anniversary "Door Prize" clock. The volunteers who worked in the booth appreciated the gift certificates. $321 was made in the booth after expenses. Thank you, Marge!
Bylaws - Licht presented proposed by-law changes. The changes had to do with 1) adding the definition of a Family Membership to include two adult partners, 2) changing such that a Family Membership is entitled to two votes, 3) adding a Guest Membership for those who wish to come along to DDC events, 4) adding that official business can be conducted through electronic mail and the website, 5) changing the board term limits from one to two years, 6) changing the bylaws to reflect the current practice of the board choosing their own officers, 7) adding that the President presides at the Annual Meeting and uses Roberts Rules of Order, 8) changing that the newsletter is produced from six times a year to as many times as authorized by the board. Check out the actual wording on the website. Makurat moved that the board recommended that changes be accepted by the membership, Houk 2nd. This will be added to the agenda at the Annual meeting. MC. We also discussed the new fee schedule. It, too, will be on the Annual Meeting agenda.
Safety Clinic - went well. Discussed clinician payment schedule $50 for singles, $100 for pairs. $150 for featured clinician. $50 for other clinicians. Suzanne took video of the clinic and wanted to know if we would like to put up clips on the website. Donna also wants to use her helmet cam for driving footage for the website.
Silver Anniversary Committee - will try for June 29th drive. Will have cake and silver ribbons for carriages and people. Will try to get Past Presidents together.
Drives - Roger Houk distributed a sheet with dates confirmed.
Rituals of Spring - Old World, May 17th, in conjunction with Jefferson Draft Horse group.
Loren asked about having "theme" drives. Cookout Drive at Donald Park on August 17th. Also brought up Scavenger Hunt drive idea.
Safety Manual - Myrna is done with the retype and they were printed for the MHF. We had 200 copies printed. We will take some to each drive in case someone would like to purchase one. They are $5.00 each.
New Business:
Back-up Email Notices - Crossman to provide back-up for e-mails to be sent out to club members.
Haflinger Group Solicitation - Haflinger Owners of Wisconsin (HOW) wants to ask for donations for BreyerFest in Kentucky. Rhinehart moved to put an article in the newsletter, but not to send out an e-mail, Makurat 2nd. MC.
Next year's clinic - HOW board members volunteered to host a clinic together with DDC. The general feeling from the board was that it was OK to pursue.
There was a request to use harness racing equipment at a trail drive. Discussion was held about proper equipment for safety on a trail drive. Breast collar and breeching are recommended for hilly terrain for safety's sake.
