The major focus of the Dairyland Driving Club is to provide safe, scenic and enjoyable pleasure drives throughout the driving season. We think the following are all excellent driving opportunities.

Everyone at each drive must be a DDC member. You can invite a friend to ride along in your carriage by purchasing a “guest” membership for them for $5.  Use the DDC Application form for your guest member.

Your 2012 Coggins Test must be brought to all sites.  Debi Radtke  will accept your copy prior to the first drive. If you fail to get your name on her list, then you will be asked to provide a copy at the drives. State trail passes or county trail passes may be required.  The common courtesy of cleaning your parking spot before leaving is expected; this includes manure.  In case of inclement weather, check your email or this website.

FOR ALL THE PLEASURE DRIVES, PLEASE ARRIVE ABOUT 10:00 AM, STOP DRIVING AT 12:15 AND HAVE LUNCH TOGETHER AT 12:30 PM. (Unless otherwise specified, bring a picnic lunch). THE AFTERNOON DRIVES START AT 1:30 PM.  As we eat lunch, near the end of our meal there will be a special "Twenty Minute Clinic" on various topics of interest to carriage drivers.

April 20 through 22: DDC Booth at the Midwest Horse Fair. Please come and host for an hour or two. It is lots of fun to meet and greet new folks interested in driving as well as veteran members. Let Marge Gettelman know when you can host. Call her at 262-673-6337 or email m.gettelman@yahoo.com

April 29: Old World Wisconsin Drive. The park director retired and no replacement has been assigned as yet so we don't know at this point if we can have the drive.  Stay tuned for more info.  If it is a go, then park in the regular parking lot that is now devoid of trees.  Plan to get there at 10 AM. We will stop at 12:15 PM and gather together for lunch at 12:30 PM. We can drive again in the afternoon beginning at 1:30 PM. Wonderful trails with historic buildings throughout the park. Directions: Old World Wisconsin is located 1½ miles south of Eagle in Waukesha County. The main entrance is approximately one mile north of their postal address on Hwy 67: S103 W37890 State Road 67 Eagle, WI 53119. Here is a Google map of Old World Wisconsin.

May 27: Black Hawk Drive and Trail Clinic free to DDC members. Back by popular demand, clinician Myrna Rhinehart will give her presentation on trail driving in the log cabin at the lovely Black Hawk Unit of the Lower Wisconsin Riverway. All DDC members may attend for free but you must register in advance with Mryna. The clinic starts at 9 AM with coffee and treats provided. Lots of DDC mentors will be needed (beginning at 10:30 PM) to demonstrate harnessing, hitching and accompany clinic participants. Contact Myrna if you can be a mentor. At 12:15 we will stop for a potluck lunch. We ask that everyone bring a dish to pass and their beverages. Directions: Blackhawk Unit is located approximately 2 miles south of US Hwy 12 on State Rd 78.  Map of the area. Take Wachter Road to the top of the hill. Please park under the large open air pavilion past the log cabin.

June 1, 2, 3:  Member Clinic with Bill Lower.  Excellent opportunity to improve your driving skills via participation or auditing.  Westfield Fairgrounds.  See more information on the side menu under clinics/member.

July 28, 29: Midwest Young Drivers' Camp at Hickory Knoll in Fitchburg.  Chet Thomas, Myrna Rhinehart and Jennifer Thompson are in charge of this event that was very successful in 2009.  Many DDC members will be needed as volunteers, especially those with well-trained driving horses to be mentors.

August 19: Robotka Farm Drive. Karen and Ed Robotka are offering their lovely farm for this brand new drive.  They also have permission for us to use adjacent lands that are especially scenic.  Excellent driving trails.  Their address is N7966 County Road M, Westfield WI 53964.

October 2: Harry Radtke Memorial Drive, Port Washington. This drive in honor of long time DDC member Harry Radtke will be held at a favorite spot, the lovely farms of the Didier Family. Bring something for the chili dump lunch.    This drive has it all – lovely scenic trails, a bridge and water crossing, some old hazards from the American Heritage CDE for you to try if you wish, plus an area for practicing dressage and cones. Our thanks to Pat and Pete Didier for all the preparations they make for this event. Directions: Take I-43 to the State Hwy 32 turn off. Instead of going into Port Washington, take County Road H north. Almost immediately after crossing the bridge, you will see County Rd KW. (H and KW form a “Y.”) Take KW north and drive about 1.8 miles. There are Didier Farms on both sides of the road. Take the driveway on the right and continue right past the older farm house, other buildings, barns, and park in a field designated for that purpose.
